Why Join a Flower CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. A flower CSA works the same way as a vegetable CSA in that the subscriber joins before the growing season starts. When you join a flower CSA your payment helps the farm to buy supplies and other necessary items critical for the coming growing season. This can include seeds, plugs (starter plants), bulbs, pre-season labor, plant materials, etc.

In return for your investment, subscribers receive a bouquet of Illinois-grown flowers. The flowers you receive are grown by us here in Champaign County on our small 5 acre flower farm. The types of flowers vary from week to week, season to season. In June, expect wispy beauties like snapdragons and larkspur. Summer brings bright favorites such as sunflowers and zinnias. Fall bears lovely dahlias and chrysanthemums. Each bouquet is bright and beautiful, reflecting the seasons in our part of Central Illinois.

When you join our CSA, you’ll be getting only flowers that have been grown without any synthetic chemicals in a field where nurturing nature through sustainable practices is top priority.

How It Works

When you join our CSA you will receive one large market bouquet for 11 weeks that can be picked up every other week from June 1 - October 19. Bouquets are filled with what's best and freshest and varieties change as the year progresses. From asters to zinnias, it's a whirlwind of color and variety all season long!

Our selection will vary from week to week as the season progresses, each bouquet will have a variety of flowers. The bouquets will already be arranged in a vase so you will have no need to arrange them yourself. Let us do the work for you. Just bring back the previous empty vase when you pick up your new bouquet. If forgotten, a small fee will be required. An email newsletter will give the varieties of the flowers and any special additional information related to the care and handling for that week’s bouquet. Every other week a bouquet will be delivered to Urbana’s Market at the Square (Saturdays, 7 a.m. to noon at the corner of Illinois and Vine Streets in Downtown Urbana).

Hear from subscriber Lorri on what she thinks about being a part of the Illinois Willows flower CSA, and view some of the photos she shared (to the right) of the bouquets she received as part of her subscription:

“I joined the Illinois Willows CSA a few years ago when my daughter gifted me a subscription. I honestly didn’t quite know what to expect, considering I had only just learned what a CSA was. When I went to see Kent to pick up my first arrangement I was completely blown away. The bouquet far exceeded my expectations. It was so lovely and from that point on I looked forward to going every other week to return my vase and pick up my new arrangement. I’ve now been a CSA member for three seasons and it’s just been delightful.”
